The
Providence Police Department is committed to receiving and
accepting complaints about the actions and performance of
our personnel. As an organization, we are committed to providing
the highest level of quality police service to all our citizens.
Integrity, honesty, and professionalism are the foundational
elements for a police department. Our reputation with the
community depends on developing and maintaining trust.
As
members of the Providence Police Department we are aware of
the important responsibilities and duties we have as public
servants. The Internal Investigations and Inspections Division
is the watchdog of the Providence Police Department. The Internal
Investigations and Inspections Division, has the responsibility
of thoroughly investigating complaints brought against officers
as well as conducting inspections to help insure that our
members are providing professional police service.
Under
the guidance and leadership of Colonel Esserman, the Internal
Investigations and Inspections Division is currently going
through a major reorganization of its’ civilian complaint
process. The goal of this reorganization is to provide the
best possible system for the objective and thorough examination
of all complaints. The courteous receipt of complaints, thorough
and impartial investigation, and just disposition are critical
in maintaining the confidence of citizens.
